WorkForce West Virginia announces new Kanawha City facility, unveils two new initiatives

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Today, WorkForce West Virginia announced the Charleston local WorkForce office recently moved to a new location in Kanawha City. The facility is housed in the former Elder-Beerman storefront.

As part of the move, WorkForce West Virginia is launching the West Virginia Jobs Connect Center. This new Center enhances WorkForce West Virginia’s new initiative to provide more intensive statewide case management services to West Virginians. This includes individuals seeking employment, training and certification opportunities, and personalized assistance. WorkForce West Virginia staff will strengthen relationships with employers across the state to match job seekers with job openings and other services.

With the new space, WorkForce West Virginia also unveiled a second initiative: Work4WV. This initiative is a collaboration with the Division of Personnel to aid in recruiting initiatives across all state agencies. This collaboration pairs job seekers registered with WorkForce West Virginia with critical open vacancies across West Virginia state agencies including the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security and the West Virginia Division of Highways, among others. 

“On behalf of Governor Jim Justice, The West Virginia Department of Commerce and WorkForce West Virginia, we are thrilled to announce the launch of Work4WV today,” said James Bailey, Secretary of the WV Department of Commerce. “This forward-thinking collaboration capitalizes on the vast talent available in our state and will help us fill these vital positions.”

The 45,000-square-foot facility opened December 5. The renovated space houses  the Charleston local WorkForce office and offices for the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review. 

“Our primary responsibility is helping West Virginians get back to work,” said Scott Adkins, Acting Commissioner of WorkForce West Virginia. “West Virginia Jobs Connect Center, paired with the new space, allows us to further serve the state. This new facility provides an excellent opportunity to expand our services statewide and to connect job seeking West Virginians with good paying jobs.”

In addition to the renovated office space, the facility will provide several thousand feet of storage space, eliminating the need for the renting of commercial storage space and creating efficiencies on-site for WorkForce West Virginia employees.

The new facility is located at 5707 MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston. Office hours for the facility will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Toll-free assistance is available by phone at 1-800-252-JOBS (1-800-252-5627) from 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
