Geological & Economic Survey

The West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey team works to make available timely, responsive and credible geoscience information to promote thoughtful public policy and maintain a high level of environmental quality, economic opportunity, and quality of life for all West Virginians. GES conducts applied and original research on the oil, natural gas and coal resources of the Mountain State.

The two major activities of the agency are research and service. Both activities are supported by extensive databases and geographic information systems including information on oil, gas and coal.
