Geological & Economic Survey
The West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey team makes available timely, responsive and credible geoscience information promoting thoughtful public policy. Additionally, the office maintains a high level of environmental quality, economic opportunity, and quality of life for all West Virginians. GES conducts applied and original research on the oil, natural gas and coal resources of the Mountain State.
Major activities for the agency include research and service. Both activities are supported by extensive databases and geographic information systems including information on oil, gas and coal.
