Division of Forestry

The West Virginia Division of Forestry protects, nurtures and promotes the wise utilization of the state’s forest resources to ensure that they are a major contributor to the state’s economy on a sustainable basis.

Agency Role:

  • Fire education, prevention, enforcement, and suppression on all 12 million+ forested acreages public, private and industrial in the State of West Virginia
  • Land owner assistance to encourage the wise management of private timberlands within the state
  • Logging sediment control to assist logging contractors within the State in the use of Best Management Practices
  • Prescribe and oversee the sustainable management of all State Forest lands
  • Participate, assist, and collaborate in various programs to improve, promote, and grow the forest industry in the State.
