About the West Virginia Natural Resources Commission

The West Virginia Natural Resources Commission serves as an advisory body to the director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources on issues related to conserving the state’s natural resources and protecting fish and game species. The Commission is composed of seven members — one from each WVDNR district and one from the state at large. Commissioners are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate to serve four-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. The Commission’s primary method of meeting its statutory mandate is by fixing by regulation the open seasons and the bag, creel, size, age, weight and sex limits for wildlife that may be legally taken in the state.
