Archery in the Schools State Tournament winners announced

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) hosted the 14th Annual West Virginia Archery in the Schools (AIS) State Tournament at Marshall University on Saturday, March 30, 2019.

Approximately 550 students from 64 schools participated in the competition.

Ripley High School returned to the top spot in the high school team division, while Bridge/Clendenin Elementary and Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School took top honors in their respective team divisions.

John Marshall High School senior Josh Baker was the top overall male shooter with a score of 291. Jesse Chandler from Lakeside Elementary was awarded the first-place elementary male individual award with a score of 275. Jacob Blair from Chapmanville Middle School took top individual honors in the middle-school division with a score of 286.

Petersburg High School freshman Danielle Fridley was the top overall female shooter with a score of 292. Lilli Slater from Bridge/Clendenin Elementary was awarded the first-place elementary female individual award with a score of 281, while Lydia Ratz from Chapmanville Middle School was awarded the first-place middle school female individual award with a score of 291.

Following the competition, awards were presented to the top three teams in each division, the top 10 male and female individuals in each division, and the top two overall male and female archers.

The top team and top 10 individuals from each division automatically received a bid to compete in the 2019 NASP National Tournament on May 9-11 in Louisville, KY. Other teams which meet specific qualifying scores will also be able to participate.
